Henry Chmura, 91, passed away unexpectedly on January 31, 2010. Born in Buffalo, New York he lived on Marco Island for the past 6 years. Henry Served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in Aviation Mechanics. Upon his separation from the Navy as a Disabled Veteran, he returned to Buffalo, N.Y. He worked many years for Lockport Felt Co., in maintaining the private corporate aircrafts and later for Carborumdum Corp. in the same capacity. During the early 1960's he joined Cornell Aeronautical Laboratory in Buffalo in the Flight Research Program. He was recognized for his work on a team developing the Bell X-22A, an experimental vertical/short take off and landing vehicle for the U.S. Government. Upon his retirement he moved to Titusville, FL where he followed the NASA Space Program. Henry never missed the excitement of a Space Shuttle launch. He was predeceased by his wife Florence; sisters, Rose, Mary, Anna and Florence. He is survived by his son, James (Amy) Chmura; daughter, Carolyn (Hal) Edgar; four grandchildren, Michael, Jamie, Christie, and Mary; and two great-grandchildren, Madeline and Connor. A requiem service will be held, at a later date, at St. Peter and Paul Church, Williamsville, New York, with internment in St. Peter and Paul Cemetery.
