Irene Goe Obituary

AUBURN - Irene M. Goe, 89, of Auburn, Indiana, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, Nov. 1, 2024.

She was blessed to be at home with her family by her side.

Irene was born on Aug. 13, 1935, and lived her whole life in Auburn. She was born to William M. and Ida "Marie" (McInturf) Blevins. They preceded her in death, along with her husband and an infant great-granddaughter, Bailey C. Geist.

Irene married Raymond W. Goe on Oct. 9, 1954, in Auburn. He passed away on May 30, 2022.

Together they raised six children, four boys and two girls.

She is survived by Debra L. (John) Smith, of Auburn, Charles W. Goe, of Auburn, Terra E. Heffley (Bill Essman), of Fremont, Douglas R. (Cindy) Goe, of Auburn, Scott A. (Joy) Goe, of Cookeville, Tennessee, and Todd W. Goe (Michelle Sexton), of Fort Wayne; seven grandchildren, Andrew Smith, Holly Travis, Michael Goe, Clinton Geist, Chase Geist, Brandon Goe and Brianne Crago; 11 great-grandchildren; and three siblings, Virginia Nelson, of Auburn, Karen Davis, of Angola and Keith (Lisa) Blevins, of Auburn.

Irene was a homemaker until the last child started school and then proceeded to work at various factories around the area. While raising their family, she also waited tables on weekends at the Moose Lodge in Auburn, while her husband bartended. Irene eventually retired from Tower Automotive in 2003.

Irene was a petite lady, barely 5-feet tall, but her presence and faith in God were larger than life! She was an energetic, happy, caring person who was always willing to help anyone she could. She was the rock of her family, strong and courageous and she made time for each of them, letting them know how very special they were. Her favorite thing to do was spend time with her family. It always put a smile on her face and you could tell she was happy. She enjoyed going out for lunch with her kids. A few of her favorites were Buffalo Wings & Ribs in Fort Wayne, Applebee's and Pizza King in Auburn.

She was also very involved in her church and had sung in the choir with her sister many years ago. More recently she helped in the hospitality area and would help serve coffee and greet people. She loved listening to Christian music and visiting with friends before and after church. Her prayer life was continuous and she knew God was working things out for good in His time.

A highlight of Irene's life was a recent trip to Las Vegas and a helicopter ride to the bottom of the Grand Canyon! This was on her bucket list and we are all so very thankful she was able to get that in just a few short weeks ago. God is Good!

Per Irene's wishes, there will be no calling or service. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
