Odessa Irene (Chalk) Moore, 93, passed from this life, Tuesday, July 15th, 2025 at her home in Durant, Oklahoma. Irene was born on Sunday, October 25th, 1931 at Achille, Oklahoma to Russell C. Chalk and Ethel May Sparks Chalk. She graduated from Durant High School in 1950. She met the love of her life Bobby J. Moore when he was on leave from the U.S. Army, and were married on January 1, 1952. She fainted after the first kiss. She was worried about how she was going to tell her parents (especially her Dad). Their first child Evelyn Kay was born February 3, 1954 and died February 8, 1954. While they were stationed in Germany, they were blessed with their second child Linda Sue, February 9, 1956. Irene continued her education path at S.O. State College and graduated with an Elementary Ed. Degree in 1970 and a Masters' Degree in 1975 at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. She began her teaching journey in 1970 at Denison, Texas at Raynor Elementary and then retired from Lamar. After retirement she signed up for Substitute Teaching in the Durant School System. She loved the students and her colleagues. She is a 55 year member of Durant Chapter #17 Eastern Star and served as a Worthy Matron many times. She is a member of the First Baptist Church of Durant. She loves her Sunday School Family dearly. She loved attending church services, and special activities especially with her Sunday School friends at the First Baptist Church. She also enjoyed the First United Bank Chairman's Club activities with her friends. Irene was preceded in death by her husband, B.J. Moore, former Bryan Co. Sheriff; daughters, infant Evelyn Kay Moore, and Linda Moore Blanton; granddaughter Lindsay Blanton, her pride and joy; parents Russell and Ethel Sparks Chalk; sister Phyllis Eggenberg; brother Ralph Chalk; infant brother Alfred Leon Chalk; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Betty Colclazier and Joe Colclazier; and brothers-in-law Ray Carr and Hubert Eggenberg. Irene is survived by her brother Mike Chalk and wife Marti; a sister Helen Chalk Gray, and sister-in-law Mary Chalk; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the First Baptist Falls Creek, Shriners Hospital, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. I first had the opportunity to become acquainted with Irene as we both taught in Denison, Texas, at Lamar. Her students and co-workers loved her and respected her while, we both being Okies, developed a close friendship. Irene was a strong woman who believed in working, worshiping, and family. Irene will always be remembered as an educational icon; she truly made a difference.
Rest now sweet friend in Eternal Peace.
