Irene Morrison Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Adcock Funeral Home - Spring Lake on Jan. 7, 2026.
Irene Lillian Morrison, 94 years, of Elizabethtown, NC and formerly of Fayetteville, NC, departed this earthly life on January 7, 2026 and entered into the joy of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Irene was born on March 8, 1931 to parents William Gustav Reid and Grace Elizabeth (Silvis) Reid in Ludington, Michigan. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years - James Louis Morrison also of Fayetteville, NC. She is survived by her three children Randy (Pam) Morrison of Zeeland, Michigan, Timothy (Margie) Morrison of Raleigh, NC and Becky Rogotzke of Elizabethtown, NC and 15 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Except for the final few years of her life, Irene lived an adventurous, very active and productive life enjoying traveling, hosting friends and family and always serving in numerous venues of volunteering, with her church or helping with the Servicemen's Christian Center with her husband Jim in Norfolk, Virginia and in Fayetteville, NC. She was the primary "taxi" for her three rambunctious kids who were usually involved with various sports, school and other outside activities.

As a teenager, Irene lettered in basketball and was a cheerleader at Coopersville High School in Michigan. Throughout her life, she continued to enthusiastically love, support and "cheer on" her family.

Irene was quick to develop friendships and always enjoyed getting together for a meal or shared travel adventures. For many years, Irene volunteered as a "Pink Lady" at the Cape Fear Valley Hospital and later helped wheel in-patients to Sunday Chapel services in the hospital. She developed many lifelong friendships in the Cape Fear Homemakers Extension Group of Cumberland County and thoroughly enjoyed bus excursions with the Senior Travel group of Fayetteville. For several years, Irene entertained residents and patients in hospitals, nursing homes and pediatric care facilities as a clown - sharing a little humor and some happy smiles. Despite living in a not-so-big-house, she frequently extended true southern hospitality to lots folks (of all ages), inviting them over for dinner or to stay a night or two while traveling through.

Long before cell-phones existed, Irene kept in touch with friends and family by faithfully writing cards, letters and notes of encouragement - remembering birthdays and other special events - and usually signing off with heart-felt "Love and Prayers". She was always ready and willing to help and 'lend an ear' to friends and family during tough times and life's many challenges. Irene cherished many life-long friends and was quick with a word of encouragement.

Without a doubt, Irene will have a most joyous Heavenly reunion as she enters her permanent Home. "Well done good and faithful servant".

Final graveside service will be at Sandhills Veterans' Cemetery in Spring Lake, NC at 12:00 noon on February 3, 2026.
