Irene Elizabeth Pittman, 98, of West Siloam Springs, Oklahoma passed away at her home on Thursday, June 5, 2025.
Irene was born on September 23,1926 in Adair County, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Earl Leroy Fisher and Mary Miller Fisher. She graduated from Watts High School in the Class of 1944. She married Virgil Ray Pittman on August 28, 1945, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, who preceded her in death in 2012. Irene was also a graduate of the University of Arkansas in the Nursing program. She was a Registered Nurse for many years and worked as the head nurse in the Critical Care Unit at the Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital. Along with her nursing, Irene and Virgil owned and operated the Pittman Music Store in West Siloam Springs, the Party Barn in Kansas, Oklahoma and started the Hillbilly Flea Market in West Siloam Springs. She loved playing music and could play various instruments including guitar, bass guitar and fiddle. She also sang in the Night Owl Band with her husband, Virgil playing the drums. She loved to garden and completed various building projects over the years. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil; one son, Virgil Jan Pittman; three brothers, Clifford Fisher, Eugene Fisher and Dwaine Fisher; and five sisters, Ruby Fisher, Kate Rebozzi, Laura Ross, Fern Weeks, and Betty Saltenberger.
She is survived by one daughter, Linda Whitmire and husband Gale of Mosely Prairie; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Pittman of West Siloam Springs; one sister, Lorraine Setliff of Apopka, Florida; five grandchildren, Lori Sherrell and husband Mark, Sandra Shackelford and husband Brian, Darell Whitmire and wife Sonya, Kevin Pittman, and Johnny Pittman and wife Michelle; fourteen great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews and other family members.
Services will be held at the Johnson Cemetery in West Siloam Springs on Tuesday, June 10, 2025. Visitation will be held before the services from 9:30am until 10:00am. Graveside services will start at 10:00am with Pastor Terry Wofford Officiating.
Arrangements are entrusted to Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Siloam Springs, AR.
