Irene Sanchez

Irene Sanchez, 68 of Vaughn, NM, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, June 4, 2024.

Irene was born on May 22, 1956 in Encino, NM to Antonio D. Garcia and Helen (Peña)  Garcia.   Irene was raised in Encino, where she also attended school—graduating from Encino High School.  On June 9, 1974, Irene was married to Johnny Sanchez at St. Helen’s Catholic Church in Portales, NM.

Some 47 years ago, Irene made her home in Vaughn, where she worked for the railroad as a transporter.  Irene was also a parishioner at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.   In her spare time, Irene enjoyed playing her games and cooking, however, Irene’s greatest joy came from the time she spent with her family.  Irene will always be remembered as a loving and caring Mom and Grandma.

Irene is preceded in death by her parents: Antonio and Helen Garcia, her son: Christoper Sanchez, her siblings: Cecilia Chavez, Berlinda Garcia and Manuel Garcia and her niece: Barbara (Bobbi) Sisneros.

Irene is survived by her husband: Johnny, her daughters: Venus Garcia (Jessie) and Mary Aragon (Aaron), her sons: Andre Sanchez (Bekah), Kevin Sanchez (Heather) and Ambrosio Sanchez (Victoria), her grandchildren and close family friend Paul Lucero, as well as numerous family, relatives and friends.

Recitation of The Most Holy Rosary followed by the Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, June 8, 2024 beginning at 10AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Encino, with Father Timothy Meurer officiating the service.

Interment of cremains will follow at Our Lady of Guadalupe Cemetery in Encino with all Irene’s grandchildren serving as Urn Bearers.
