Irene Sangastiano

Irene Kathleen Sangastiano (nee O'Brien), age 85, South Hackensack, NJ, passed away on December 29, 2025, peacefully at home.

Born on June 24, 1940 in North Bergen, Irene was the daughter of Theresa and William O'Brien, both of whom predeceased her. They were one of nine siblings, loved Atlantic City, and retired as a Night Billing Manager at Red Star Express. Irene was well known for her forever positive attitude, good spirit, and great smile and she will be dearly missed by all that knew her.

Irene is survived by husband of 65 years Anthony Sangastiano, son David and his wife Donna Commanda, daughter Toni-Lee, sister Tess Cappitelli (Jack), sister-in-law Bonnie O'Brien; grandchildren Brittany, Jason and wife Alexis, Nick, and Aidan; great grandchildren Story, Sunny, Summit, and many nieces and nephews. They were predeceased by beloved son Thomas and siblings Georgie, Bobby, Catherine, Sonny, Kenny, Eddie, and John.

Family and friends will be received on Sunday, Jan 4th 2- 6 PM at the Volk Leber Funeral Home of Oradell, NJ.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, Jan 5th, at 10 AM at Immaculate Conception Church (49 Vreeland Ave, Hackensack, NJ 07601), followed by a burial service to join her son at Holy Cross Cemetery (340 Ridge Road, North Arlington, NJ 07031).
