Irene Soutar, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and caregiver, passed away peacefully at the age of 62 on August 24, 2025, after courageously battling cancer for four years. Born on November 12, 1962, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Irene's life was marked by her unwavering love and dedication to her family and the many children she cared for over more than four decades.
Irene is preceded in death by her devoted father Roland, her gentle mother Doris, and her two sisters she never got to meet, Martina and Diane. She leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth through her surviving husband of 44 years, Michael Soutar, her five children—Chrystal, Justin, Cassondra, Melissa, and Shawna; her children-in-law Moe, Lisa, and Dan; and her nine cherished grandchildren—Damian, Aiden, Ross, Cyrus, Lyla, Kayleigh, Ashton, Ainsley, and Julianna—who brought her endless joy and pride.
Irene’s sister Sue and her brother-in-law Pat, along with their children Michelle, Cindy, and their spouses and families, also hold a special place in her heart. Irene’s bond with her family was a source of strength and joy, and her love extended beyond her immediate family to everyone she touched with her kindness.
Throughout her life, Irene was known for her compassionate heart and her home filled with laughter and care. For over 40 years, she nurtured and touched the lives of countless children through her dayhome, many of whom will forever hold her in their hearts as a second mother.
Though Irene's presence will be deeply missed, her loved ones find comfort in knowing she is now in Heaven, embraced by Jesus' loving arms. Her legacy of kindness and selflessness will continue to inspire all who knew her.
A private family service will be held in her memory.
The Broken Chain
We little knew the day that
God was going to call your name.
In life we loved you dearly,
In death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you
But you didn’t go alone.
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home.
You left us peaceful memories.
Your love is still our guide,
And though we cannot see you
You are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken
And nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one
The chain will link again.
