Maggie Valley, Irene Sutton, 88, passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at her residence. She was a native of Cataloochee and daughter to the late Lush and Maggie Love Caldwell. She is preceded by her husband William Lee Sutton who died in 2019, two sisters, Bertha Sutton, Dorothy Messer and two brothers Riley and Walt Caldwell.
Irene was the owner and operator of the Indian Creek Trading Post. She was of the Baptist Faith.
She loved riding and having picnics in the mountains and enjoyed cooking. Most of all she loved being with her family and her husband.
Irene is survived by two daughters, Rita Sutton and Tammy Sutton (Dale); two sisters, Nettie Hannah and Sally Messer (Buck); two brothers, Stokey Caldwell (Deanie) and L.C. Caldwell and one granddaughter, Whitney Pritchard and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 3, 2024, in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Jerry Nelson and Reverend Millard Grant officiating. Burial will follow the service at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will be receiving friends from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior at the funeral home.
The care of Mrs. Sutton has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville, NC
