Irene Wood Obituary

Published by Legacy on Feb. 9, 2024.
FORT WORTH - Irene Wood, 87, passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2024.
Graveside: 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Irene and her husband, Lewis opened Cottondale Grocery and Deli in 1984. No one could have predicted that a small one-stop-shop on the corner of an intersection in a small town would have made such a life changing decision.
She was known to an entire community as a hardworking, stoic woman that knew how to make one incredible cheeseburger.
To the few that knew the other side of Irene, or Gammy, she was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Irene loved hot black coffee, Pekingese dogs and the Readers Digest almost as much as she loved her family.
Irene is preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Wood; daughter, Debra Wood; and grandson, Joseph Woods.
She is survived by her daughter, Jackie Taylor and husband, Cliff; granddaughter; Jessica Joiner and husband, Chance; grandson, Clayton Taylor; granddaughter-in-law, Keller Woods; great-grandchildren, Emma Joiner, Cooper Joiner, Oliver Joiner, Fae Taylor and Henry Woods. She is additionally survived by her sisters, Pauline Gentry and Donna Angel; brother, George Smith; brother-in-law and his wife, Kenneth and Cheri Wood; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She will truly be missed.
