Irene Zabriskie Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Stroo Funeral Home, Inc. on Sep. 29, 2025.
Irene A. Zabriskie, age 78, went to be with her Lord on Friday, September 26, 2025. Irene was born on May 25, 1947, to George and Lucille Nichols. She would work for Amway as a model which she talked about fondly. Later she worked in the human resources department at Steelcase. She and her husband Bill traveled quite a bit; spending a good number of weekends at their cabin in Kalkaska but they also like going to Jamaica and the Upper Peninsula. They retired to Caledonia, MI until Bill passed away from cancer. His death was really hard on Irene and she would often say "I just want to go to be with dad". Irene was diagnosed with vascular dementia and she moved into Commonwealth Senior Living of Grand Rapids where she will be deeply missed. She had many hobbies, reading, shopping, and watching old game shows on TV. She enjoyed knitting and made some amazing sweater sets, snowsuits, and afghans for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Irene was preceded in death by her husband, William; and brother, Tom Nichols. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Irene (Jeffrey) Voss, Daniel (Amy) Lynch, Robert (Olga) Zabriskie, Nieske Lynn Zabriskie; grandchildren, Aaron Bolser, Jeffrey (April) Bolser, Major (Jamie) Grover, Austin (Jessica) Keller, Bryant (Samantha) Lynch, Jacob Voss, Brianna (Jack) Barnhart, William Zabriskie II, Isabel Zabriskie; 11 great grandchildren with one more on the way; brothers and sisters, George (Kathy) Nichols, Fred (Marcia) Nichols, Bob (Jodie) Nichols, Pat (Steve) Phenix, Barb (Don) Chase; sister-in-law, Julie Nichols; and many nieces and nephews. The family will greet visitors on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th St. SE, Grand Rapids; and on Thursday, October 2, from 10 to 11 am at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 1213 52nd St. SE, Kentwood, 49508, with Father Pater Vu, as Celebrant. Interment will be in Dutton Cemetery. Contributions in memory of Irene may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
