Iris Lucy Calogero

Iris Lucy DeRouen Calogero, of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2026, at the age of 91. She was born on December 21, 1934, in New Orleans, Louisiana.

She was daughter of the late Pearl Cyrus DeRouen and Charles DeRouen, and was predeceased by her beloved husband of 36 years, Robert G. Calogero Sr.

Iris's memory will be lovingly remembered by her three children, Charles Calogero (JoAnn), Susan Guarisco (Michael), and Robert Calogero Jr. (Sherrie). She was a proud grandmother to Courtney Davis (Justin), Robert Calogero III (Stacy), Kirsten Nguyen (Dong), Mark Hammonds (Sarah), Christopher Calogero (Cristie), Cohen Calogero, Joseph Guarisco (Katelyn), Matthew Guarisco, Amber Silver, and Micah Silver (Taylor) and a doting great-grandmother of 16 great-grandchildren. She was the adored sister of her deceased siblings, Lurry DeRouen (Joyce), Edna Mae Clement (Christy), Gordy DeRouen (Joyce), Yola Navarre (Ted), and her living sister, Patricia Ligon (James). She also leaves behind a host of extended family members and friends, all of whom she loved dearly.

Iris's professional life was marked by her role as a Judicial Secretary with the Louisiana Supreme Court. Her colleagues will remember her as a pillar of professionalism and a mentor to many until her retirement in 2009.

A woman of deep faith, Iris was a long-time parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, where she contributed her time and talents to the St. Joseph Altar Committee. She was the proud founder of the Patriotic Altar in 2005, and was recently honored for her dedication. Her commitment to her church and community was recognized in 2019, when she was honored with The Order of St. Louis Award by the Diocese of New Orleans.

As a member of the Ladies of Liberty, Iris found joy in fellowship and service. She found great peace in praying the Rosary with a group she and her "Nine Lucky Ladies" founded more than 40 years ago and later extended to praying the Patriotic Rosary for more than 20 years at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Pearl River, LA. She loved organizing and attending social events, Saints football parties, visits to the casino, and Bingo at Summerfield Assisted Living.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the many physicians and medical staff who cared for Iris; Summerfield Assisted Living staff; Passages Hospice staff, Kendra and Scott; and her dedicated caregivers, Tina, Joyce, Monique, and Shawanda.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Sunday, March 22, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Audubon Funeral Home in Slidell. The Legion of Mary and close friends will pray the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. A second visitation will be held on Monday, March 23, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church with a Funeral Mass to begin at 11:00 a.m. Iris will be laid to rest in Forest Lawn Cemetery following Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Joseph Altar at Our Lady of Lourdes Church located at 400 Westchester Place, Slidell, LA. 70458.
