SHELBY: Iris Champion Greer, 91, died Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at Hospice at Wendover. A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Wilson and Myrtle Crawford Borders. Iris graduated high school from Number 3 in Earl, attended Gardner-Webb Junior College and graduated from Appalachian State with her teaching certificate in 1953. She taught fourth grade for most of her teaching career. She was a charter member of Westview Baptist Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir and participating in Christmas Cantatas. She had a love for her family, art and music. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Samuel Greer Jr.; and brothers, Porter Champion and Gary Borders. She is survived by her sons, Greg Greer and wife Linda of Cornelius and Erick Greer and wife Susan of Myrtle Beach, SC; grandchildren, Brandon and Tatiana Greer; and sisters-in-law, Sarah Greer and Nancy Borders of Shelby and Marjorie Rainey of Rockingham. Funeral services will be held 2:00PM, Thursday, April 28, 2022 at Westview Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Rick Bowling officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, in the church. Burial will follow in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Westview Baptist Church or Hospice of Cleveland County.
