Iris J. Johnson, 86, lifelong resident of Superior, died on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, in her home with her family by her side.
Iris was born in Superior on February 10, 1938, to Dorothy (Quelch) and Chauncy Bangs.
She worked the counter at Kresge's before spending most of her life as a nurse's aide at St. Mary's Hall in Superior. In her retirement years she worked part-time at KMart. Iris was a former member of Our Redeemers Free Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing bingo, visiting the casino, scratch-off lottery tickets, playing on her GrandPad, crocheting, and watching Investigate Discovery TV and she absolutely loved the Green Bay Packers!!
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 51 years, Erving; daughter, Dawn "Dolly" Bangs; twin grandchildren, Sean and Sabrina Smith; grandson, Jon; brother, Richard Bangs; sisters, Sandra Drinkwine, Lenore "Lani" Fahey, and Kathy Hunter.
Iris is survived by her children, Linda (Bill) Eckstrom, Paulette Smith, Paul (Vicki) Smith, David (Eunice) Smith, and Ginny (Erik Quinn) Freeman; 18 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren; sister, Judith Soderberg; brother, Chauncey (Jeanne) Bangs, Jr.; and sister in-law, Lorraine Bangs.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 11th from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service at Downs Life Celebration Center, 1902 N 34th St., Superior, with Rev. Daniel Proffit as officiant. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be David and Paul Smith, Erik Quinn, Daniel and Richard Rinnet, Seth Smith and Sam Freeman.
If desired, memorials in Iris' name may be made to St. Croix Hospice, 1725 Maple Grove Rd, Duluth MN 55811.
