Iris Newton Kendrick

Mrs. Iris Newton Kendrick, 64, of Jamestown passed away Saturday, November 15, 2008, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Kendrick was born January 26, 1944, in Pamlico County, North Carolina, a daughter of the late William Newton and Ada Daniels New-ton Riggs. She graduated with honors from East Carolina Uni-versity with a major in English. She worked as an English Teacher and as a reading specialist with several school systems, including Jackson-ville, Florida, Bath County, Virginia, Albemarle County, Virginia, Eden, North Carolina, Durham County Schools, and Guilford County Schools. She had also been employed with the Greensboro News and Record for some time. She was a member of Hickory Chapel Wesleyan Church in High Point, where she also sang in the choir.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by three brothers, George Riggs, Sheldon Riggs, and Earl Riggs.

She is survived by her hus-band of over 40 years, Dennis R. Kendrick, of the home; and her daughter, Dennie Faye Ezzelle, and husband, Curtis, of Archdale.

Funeral will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, November 19, 2008, at Hickory Chapel Wesleyan Church in High Point, officiated by Reverend James Capps and Reverend A.J. Kendrick. Interment will follow in Oakwood Memorial Park Cemetery in High Point. The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 6 until 8 p.m. at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale.
