IRIS MCBRIDE Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 14, 2025.
Iris McBride passed away on October 4th at the age of 94. She was widowed in 2017 when her husband of 65 years, Jerry passed.

She is survived by her daughters, Diane and Eileen.

Iris was a fiery redhead born in New York City of Irish immigrant parents. She was the last of her generation also leaving behind grandson Andrew (Shea), granddaughter Courtney (Nick) and four great-grandchildren. Grandson Jason and great-granddaughter Brooke preceded her.

She and Jerry and the girls moved to South Florida when Jerry's job with Bacardi Rum transferred him to Miami in the 60s.

Iris, mainly a homemaker, but did work from time-to-time.

When Jerry retired in the 80s, they moved to Sebastian, Florida. Her last job was at the Walmart in Sebastian, where she was known as "The Shoe Lady".

Iris loved to travel and was always up for a road trip or an overseas adventure.

It wasn't uncommon for Iris to run into and old school friend from New York while visiting Ireland, or when someone called out "hey! Shoe Lady!" during a trip to Paris. This happened often and became expected!

The last few years had been particularly difficult as her age and illnesses, including dementia, caught up to her.

Iris was on home hospice with VNA for about three years. She entertained everyone with her stories, most of which were fictional.

No funeral service is planned, but if anyone is inclined to remember Iris, a prayer and or donation to VNA Hospice in Vero Beach would be her preference.
