Iris Jeanette Styers Smith, 86, passed away on March 5, 2024, while at a hospice with her daughter, Maria Anne Smith, standing by her side.
Iris was born on March 25, 1937, to the late Odeous Ray Styers and Inez Cromer Styers. She attended Winston-Salem City Schools in North Carolina and graduated from Hanes High School in 1955.
Iris had a long successful career in the Forsyth County School System and Charter Hospital. She loved humanity of all ages and backgrounds. Her passion was working with children and made a difference in many children’s lives. She assisted many people with their personal struggles with drug and alcohol addictions throughout her life. She was a deeply devoted Christian, and her faith was very important to her. She also loved animals, especially dogs. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Crystal Jeanette Smith; her brother, Donald Ray Styers; and the father of her two children, Clyde E. Smith, Jr.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Barry (Vivian) Edward Smith; daughter, Maria Anne Smith; grandchildren, Morgan Kathreene Warren, Caleb Edward Smith and their mother Toni S. Warren; and Brandon Tilmon Mundy.
Iris was a wonderful, thoughtful, caring mother who always put her children and family above anything else in life! She will be severely missed by all those who loved her, especially her family! The Smith Family wishes to thank all of the staff at Carolina Caring Catawba Valley Hospice House for their excellent care.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at 11:00AM at Gardens of Memory - Walkertown in the Mausoleum Chapel with Pastor Jim Bush officiating.
