Virginia Beach - It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Iris Deborah (Mitchell) Smith, who departed this world on October 26, 2025, at the age of 71. Born on May 17, 1954, in Biloxi, Mississippi, Iris was a beacon of warmth, strength, and dedication throughout her life.
Iris spent her formative years in Biloxi before moving to New Jersey, where she proudly graduated from Trenton Central High School in the Class of 1972. She carried the values of education and determination throughout her life, which were evident in her professional career and personal endeavors.
She devoted many years to the United States Postal Service, where she was known for her diligence and unwavering commitment to her work. Iris's exemplary service and dedication to her duties were admired by colleagues and patrons alike.
A loving and devoted family woman, Iris cherished her roles as a mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Her love for her family was boundless, and she touched many lives with her kindness and generosity.
Iris was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Cornelius Mitchell and Audrie (Williams) Harper, and her brothers, Carl, Alan, Dwayne, William, and Anthony Mitchell.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughters, Kaneka L. Turner and Kieara Walden; son-in-law Nate Morgan; grandchildren, Nadia Walden and Jordan Hamilton; her brother Dele Mitchell; her sisters, Marie Dunn and Joy (Bruce) Love; her Aunt Loretta Scoogins; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, all of whom will miss her dearly.
In her later years, Iris made
Virginia Beach, Virginia her home, where she passed away peacefully. Though no services are currently planned, Simply Cremation is assisting her family during this difficult time.
