Anthony "Tony" Dewitt Smith entered the gates of Heaven on Tuesday morning, November 4, 2025, at the age of 86.
Tony was born into humble beginnings in Davie County, the oldest of 10 siblings. From a young age, he learned the value of hard work and took on adult responsibilities to support his family. Forgoing a formal education after the 9th grade, he began working to help provide for his growing family.
A self-taught artisan, Tony forged a remarkable 50+ year career as a furniture repairman extraordinaire. His incredible talent, which he generously shared, placed him in high demand and earned him widespread respect within the furniture industry and beyond. He set a standard of excellence that others strived to reach, and there was truly nothing he couldn't fix.
When not working, which was rare, Tony loved spending time outdoors in his garden, playing golf, or enjoying his favorite place, Holden Beach. Above all, he cherished moments with family and friends.
Tony was a proud family man with unwavering faith in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He spread love, joy, and generosity wherever he went. His million-dollar smile and contagious optimism ensured he never met a stranger.
Tony is preceded in death by his mother, Emma "Ervesta" Smith Plott and great granddaughter, Lillian.
He is forever remembered and cherished by his wife of 67 years, Diane Douthit Smith; his daughters, Vicki (Jim) Zarembka and Karen (Britt) Moore; his grandson, Ethan Smith Moore; granddaughters, Ryann Zarembka (JC) Stanley and Brennen (Franklin) Irvin; and his great-granddaughter, Livi James Stanley; sisters, Marsha Plott Tutterow (Larry), Connie Plott Carr (Garland); sister-in-law, Linda Smith, numerous nephews and nieces and grand nephews, nieces.
A celebration of life will be held at 12:45pm on Friday, November 7, 2025, in the High Point Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service with Reverend David Emery officiating.
The family will receive guests from 11:00 to 12:30pm prior to the service.
