Irma Frances O'Bryan Jackson, 99, of Louisville, KY, passed away peacefully at home July 5, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. Born November 10, 1925 Meade County, KY to the late John William O'Bryan and Emma Katherine (Barr) O'Bryan. Her family moved to New Albany, IN where she attended elementary and high school. Irma was a devoted member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church for 73 years. She actively supported parish and school events throughout her life, especially during the years her children attended school. Known for her vibrant spirit and love of playing cards with family and friends at Shively and Beechmont Community Centers. A passionate sports fan, she was especially proud of her own days as a basketball player in the 1940s for the CCC Comets Women's Team. Began her working career at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. After raising her eight children, returned to civil service at the U.S. Census Bureau. She retired in 1988 from Naval Ordnance Station. Preceded in death by her husband, William Howard Jackson, Sr, her siblings, Naomi McCord, Bonnie Renaker, Morris O'Bryan, and Bill O'Bryan. Survived by her eight children: Susan Stubbins (Brent) Zanesville OH; Carol Dennis Brownsboro AL; Billy Jackson (Leigh) Louisville, David Jackson (Laura) Louisville; Mike Jackson (Mary) Fishersville; Sam Jackson (Tammy) Smyrna TN; Sharon Jackson St. Matthews; and Sally Bailey (Dan) Seagrove Beach FL. A cherished grandmother to Elizabeth (Eric), James (Liz), Nicole (Michael), Bryan (Lindsey), Alex, Emma, Tony (Kelly), Cole, Stephanie (Brent), Eric (Tara), Dara (Trent), Courtney (Brendan), Chris (Maryann), Matt, and Caroline. Also survived by great-grandchildren Vincent, Will, Danielle, Evan, Trey, Jenna, Jackson, Casen, and Bethany, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors. Visitation Friday, July 11 from 2 – 8 pm at Joseph E. Ratterman & Son, 7336 Southside Drive. Funeral Mass, Saturday, July 12 at 10 am at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 6105 So 3rd. St. Private interment at Resthaven Memorial Park. Expressions of sympathy may be made in Irma's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
