Irma Lee Roberson, 92, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2025. A devoted wife, dedicated educator, and loving friend to many, Irma will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Born on November 27, 1933, in Centerville, Mississippi, Irma grew up with a warmth and strength of character that would remain the hallmark of her life. She pursued higher education with perseverance and pride, graduating from Jackson State College in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. Her love of learning blossomed into a lifelong commitment to nurturing the minds of future generations.
Irma moved to Kansas City, where she began an outstanding 30 year career with the Kansas City Public Schools. Throughout her tenure, she inspired countless students not only to learn but to believe in their own potential. Her humor and kindness brightened classrooms, and her unwavering grace guided colleagues and children alike.
On November 23, 1963, Irma married Jimmie Roberson. They were the proud parents of 3 sons. Larry, Keith and Byron. They shared more than six decades of love and partnership. She was proceeded in death by her parents, her two oldest sons, one brother. She leaves behind her husband, son Byron and his wife Stacy of Overland Park Kansas, 9 grandchildren and 10 great- grandchildren. Irma cherished her family deeply and found great joy in the simple beauty of everyday life.
Outside her professional accomplishments, Irma delighted in her passions for family, gardening, and church. Her home and garden reflected the same care and creativity she brought to her relationships-nurturing, colorful, and full of life. A woman of faith, she found great comfort and purpose in her church community, where she gave freely of her time, spirit, and compassion.
Irma will always be remembered for her giving heart, gentle humor, and the steady encouragement she offered to all around her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and grace-a legacy that continues in every life she touched.
Her memory lives on in the countless hearts she touched and the light she brought into the world.
A funeral service celebrating Irma's life will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2025 at 10:30 am at One Spirit United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 9:30 am-10:30 am at the church. Interment Leavenworth National Cemetery.
