Irma Janette Banks Shipman

Irma Janette Banks Shipman, 81, of Nebo, passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at her residence.

A native of Buncombe County, she was born on January 22, 1944 to the late Grady McKinley Banks and Gladys Louise Neighbors Banks.

She was employed at the former Tom’s Rehab as an RN Trainee. Irma loved her family, and she had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. The care and concern she had for her family was evident in her daily life. She had a beloved cat that she enjoyed taking care of and spoiling. Irma was always looking out for ways to help others, and she will be greatly missed by all.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Robert Shipman; one son, Robbie Shipman; and her daughter, Saundra Bolick. The last of nine siblings, she was also preceded in death by all of her brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her son, Jimmy Shipman (Carolyn); eight grandchildren, Elizabeth Shipman, Brittani Dumas, Jessica Flanders, Dustin Shipman, Nicholas Shipman, Kasey Sams, Allison Sams, and Kimberly Bolick; and her great grandchildren, Hudson, Dawson, River, Rylan, Roselynn, Zayden, Liam, Summer, and Aryana.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 7, 2026 from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. at Beam Funeral Service. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
