On August 27, 2025, the world lost a light, and heaven gained one. Irma Vasquez, a woman whose love could fill a room and whose strength held generations together, passed away at the age of 79. Born on June 19, 1946, in Weslaco, Texas, Irma was the cherished daughter of Julian Flores Sr. and Maria Villarreal Flores. From an early age, Irma was a vibrant, beautiful, and bright woman. At Weslaco High School, she proudly carried the role of a pep squad member, lifting spirits and embodying the warmth and joy that would define her entire life. At just 19 years old, an ordinary trip changed the course of her life forever. She was part of a caravan moving cars up north when she locked eyes with a young man named Ruben Vasquez. In that single moment, something eternal was born. A love so immediate and profound that about seven months later, on May 24, 1968, they vowed to spend their lives together. And for 57 years, they did faithfully, beautifully, and completely, until her very last breath. Irma was more than a devoted wife. She was the heartbeat of her home. Though she worked briefly as a teacher's aide, it was her love for her family that defined her. Irma's true calling was creating a home filled with warmth, laughter, and the delicious aroma of meals made with love. She poured her heart into her cooking, always ensuring that her children had not just nourishment, but a reminder of her deep love. Her meals were more than just food. They were acts of care, moments of comfort, and a way she showed her family just how much they meant to her. Together, Irma and Ruben raised three sons who were her pride and joy. Ruben Vasquez Jr. (Lupita), Ricardo Vasquez (Jessica), and Rene Vasquez (Annette). Her love for them was patient, endless, and unconditional. She gave everything she had to them and later to her grandsons, Ricardo Jose Vasquez and Dylan Gutierrez, who carry her love and legacy forward. Irma and Ruben shared a love for travel, exploring the vast beauty of the country together. Their trips to the wide-open skies of Colorado, the wonders of Yellowstone, the serenity of Wyoming and New Mexico, and the timeless beauty of South Dakota were not just vacations, they were opportunities to make memories, connect, and deepen their love. Through every journey, they created moments that would stay with their family forever. Irma also found joy in life's little games and challenges. She loved her books, working through sudoku puzzles, playing Scrabble, and shuffling a deck of poker cards. And of course, she was also known to enjoy the thrill of maquinitas whenever she had the chance. Among her family, she proudly held the title of Scrabble Champion, a role she defended with wit and laughter. Irma's faith was the foundation of her life. A devoted member of San Martin De Porres Catholic Church, she lived her faith through prayer, kindness, and compassion, teaching her children the values of love, generosity, and spiritual strength. Irma now reunites in eternal peace with her beloved parents and her siblings Julian Flores Jr., Humberto Flores, and Guadalupe Perez. She leaves behind her husband Ruben, her sons and grandsons, and her loving sisters Rosalinda Grimaldo, Esmeralda Flores, and Enedelia Grimaldo, all of whom carry pieces of her in their hearts. Irma was a woman whose love and dedication were felt in every part of her life. To know her was to feel safe, cherished, and deeply loved. She gave everything for her family, and her legacy of love, faith, and care will endure forever.
