Irma Rice West, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 1, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was 82 years old.
Born on November 29, 1942, in Buncombe County, Irma was a proud graduate of the Clyde A. Erwin High School Class of 1960. Throughout her life, she exemplified warmth and dedication, traits that were evident to all who knew her.
Irma enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, demonstrating a profound appreciation for reading and the great outdoors. Her interests painted a picture of a person who found joy in both adventure and tranquility, enriching her life and the lives of those around her.
A longtime member of Elk Mountain Baptist Church, Irma was deeply involved in her community and held a strong faith, which was a guiding light throughout her life.
She was predeceased by her parents, George Lee Rice and Opal Lovena Caldwell Rice; and her brothers, Jerry D. Rice and Harry Lee Rice. Their memories will forever remain a part of her legacy.
Irma's legacy is deeply intertwined with her family. She was the devoted wife of Nathan E. West for an incredible 57 years. Together, they cultivated a loving home. Irma is survived by her children: Katrina Stanton and her husband Michael, Kenny West and his wife Christine, Karen Manness and her husband Billy, Alan West, and Ernest West. The love she showed to her family extended further to her eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson, all of whom will carry her memory in their hearts. Irma was also a sister to Roger D. Rice, and she cherished the bond they shared. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and extended family members, each of whom will remember her fondly for her kindness and nurturing spirit.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during visitation on Monday, August 4, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM at Anders-Rice Funeral Home. Rev. Bradley Collins will officiate and burial will follow at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.
