Irma E. Wigans, 98, of Dakota City, passed away late Saturday afternoon, May 18, 2024, in the Long Term Care Unit of the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital, where she was a resident since December of 2023.
Irma was born January 27, 1926 on a farm near Hardy, Iowa, the daughter of Orville and Jesse (Olinger) Alexander. She was raised and educated south of Lu Verne where she attended grade school. She graduated from Vernon Consolidated School in 1943. She then moved with her parents to Humboldt where she was employed at the Humboldt Hotel Café and Tigges Drug Store. Irma was united in marriage to Glenn Wigans on June 29, 1947. The couple made their home on a farm near Thor where they raised their four children. Irma became involved in the special education program with the Humboldt Community Schools where she worked as a teaching assistant for a number of years. She was a member of Victory Church. Irma loved her dogs and plants and will be missed for her towel folding skills at Long Term Care.
Irma is survived by her children; Sheryl (Gary) Olsen of Cedar Bluff, Nebraska, Terry (Colleen) Wigans of Thor, Luann (Bill) Dencklau of Dakota City and Craig (Janelle) Wigans of Goldfield, her grandchildren; Marcie (Steve) Larson, Tracy (Becky) Olsen, Heather Francis, Treaver Wigans, Brady Wigans, Krista (Mike) Rose, Jamie Dencklau, Lucas (Kelsey) Wigans and Bailey (Nic) Grunklee and great-grandchildren; Luke, Jake, Cora and Trey Olsen, Alex and Jessica Larson, Carter and Dani Rose, Ryah, Pax and Zee Dencklau, Leah and Caleb Wigans and James, Caden and Ethan Grunklee. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Glenn, three sisters; Evelyn Alexander, Gladys Detmering and Marvel Nygaard and her brothers Everett and Vernon.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 22nd at Victory Church in Dakota City. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21st at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral & Cremation Service in Humboldt. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Humboldt. www.masonlindhart.com
