Irvin Miller Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 31, 2014.
Irvin N. Miller, 88, of Lititz, PA, passed away on Sunday evening at Conestoga View in Lancaster. Born in Lancaster County, he was the son of the late Christian C. and Esther Newcomer Miller. Irvin is the husband of Mabel Eberly Miller, together they celebrated 67 years of marriage. He quit school after the 9th grade to get a job to help his widowed mother and younger siblings. Irvin served in "CPS", Civilian Public Service, in lieu of doing military time during WW II. He was a cook in his "camp" in Powellsville, MD. He then delivered Queen Dairy Milk to homes in Lancaster County and was a distributor for Archway Cookies for many years. He owned and operated Miller's Furniture Store in Lititz, and during his semi-retired years began working for Breathing Services for some time. Then when he fully retired, he enjoyed refinishing furniture in his garage workshop at home. Irvin also continued his "cooking career" during his entire adult life, creating many tasty meals for his family. He attended Crossroads Community Fellowship, formerly Hess Mennonite Church, of Lititz. He served as Sunday School teacher and Bible School teacher and also as song leader, for many years. Irvin will be lovingly remembered by his wife Mabel, his children; Richard of Kutztown, PA, Pat (Daryl) Bender of Ephrata, Sandra (Mike) Layton of Chambersburg, PA, Judith (Don) Bomberger of Lititz, Mike (Matilda Sensenig) Miller of Ephrata, Fred (Marilyn Landis) Miller of Line Lexington, PA, Barbara (Willie) Keener of Mt. Joy, and Samuel (the late Kim Nolt) Miller of Rohrerstown, his 33 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister Anna Mary Smucker of Eugene, OR. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Amos, Earl, Mahlon, Charles, and David and a sister Martha Geib. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his Life Celebration Memorial Service to be held at Crossroads Community Fellowship, 1060 E. Newport Rd., Lititz, PA on Friday, Sept. 5th at 3:00 Pm with Pastor Kyle D. Buckwalter officiating. Private family interment will be held in Hess Mennonite Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 2:00 PM until the time of service. If desired, memorials may be sent in Irvin's memory to Youth With A Mission, 3402 Goose Creek Rd., Louisville, KY, 40241.
