Isaac Torres, 100, of Abilene, passed on from this life to his eternal home on March 5, 2026.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, March 10, at Eastlawn Memorial Park at 1921 Early Blvd in Early, Texas. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home located at 6449 Buffalo Gap Road Abilene, Texas 79606.

Isaac “Ike” Torres was born in Springfield, Texas, to Hortencia (Chapa) and Miguel Torres on December 16, 1925. He attended school through the 7th grade in Springfield and McAllen, Texas, until he left to help with the family farm.

At age 18, Isaac volunteered for the Army in the middle of World War II. During his time in the military, he served in the 101st Airborne Division, better known as the “Screaming Eagles,” in campaigns in Central Europe, to include Rhineland and Frankfurt, Germany. As a Combat Infantry Rifleman, he participated in front-line combat in the European Theater, earning a World War II Victory Ribbon, a Good Conduct Medal, an EAME Theater Ribbon with two bronze stars, and an Army of Occupation Ribbon (Germany).

After serving for just over 2 years, Isaac was discharged to his family home in Corpus Christi, Texas. He started working as a municipal bus driver when a young lady named Ora Juarez caught his eye. After dating for two years, they married on March 12, 1948, in Corpus Christi and moved to Fremont, Ohio, shortly after for work. Three children were born to them during that time - Rudy, Lillian, and Richard. The family lived in Ohio until they returned to Corpus Christi in 1960. Isaac soon found work at Coastal State Gas Producing Company, later becoming Valero Oil and Gas as a gauger until he retired in 1984. Isaac and Ora later moved to Brownwood, Texas to be near a ranch he owned. They later moved to Abilene to be closer to family.

Isaac loved the Lord Jesus Christ and devoted his life to living for Him. Next to that, he cherished family most of all on this earth. He valued hard work, centered his life on providing for his family, and took vacations to visit friends and family. He was often caught slipping grandchildren, nieces, and nephews cash for something to enjoy. His smile and laughter will be missed by all who knew him.

Isaac was preceded in death by his wife, Ora Torres, his youngest son, Richard Torres, and brothers Joel Torres, Abraham Torres, Martin Torres, sisters Mary Alashier, Norma Jones, and Gloria Torres.

He is survived by his daughter, Lillian Torres of Abilene, and son, Rudy Torres and wife Angie of Missouri City; brothers Mike Torres, of Michigan and Manuel Torres of Virgina, sister Ruth Jacobs of Florida; grandchildren Kimberly Scalf of Abilene and Annaliese Torres of Conroe, Texas; great-grandchildren, Tyler Cook and wife Regina of Hinesville, Georgia, Olivia Scalf of Abilene, Alessandra Gonzales and Katarina Gonzales of Conroe; great great grandchildren Sofia Rosales and Matthew Rosales-Cook of Hinesville, Georgia.

The Abilene family would like to extend an enthusiastic, sincere thank you to the staff at Lyndale Memory Care in Abilene for taking care of Isaac during the last months of his life.
