Isidore "Teddy" Katsaros passed from this life cradled in the arms of the Lord on April 8th 2025, after leading a most righteous and full life, at 99.
He is survived by, and will wait for, his beloved wife, Catherine (nee Samuel) of 68 years. Also survived by 5 children- James, Elena, Vicki, Kathryn, and Elia. 9 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and several cherished nephews and nieces. Preceded in death by 10 older brothers, who he held so dear and close to his heart, beaming every time he spoke of them. Kicking around a "ball" with his brothers, growing up, he told us, was actually "a sock filled with baking flour"!
Born in Chios, Greece, at age 15, Isidore left home in pursuit of schooling for a Naval officer's position, but not before finding his father, a priest, who was at his church at the time prepping for the day, unknowingly and ultimately sealing his youngest son with GODs blessings, sending him on his way. After serving in WWII with the Greek Navy, he eventually landed in The United States of America, where some of his brothers settled, and where he was to meet and marry the love of his life!
Achieving "The American Dream", Isidore and brothers went into the food business, spanning decades, going from diner to Restaurant/Catering Hall known as "The Watermill Inn" Smithtown. It became quite a landmark on the map of Long Island. Isidore was involved in many clubs and organizations throughout Smithtown. Masons, PBA, his churches AHEPA club, and was awarded the Paul Harris fellow award by the Rotary International.
After retiring in 1995, "Teddy" enjoyed gardening, summering in Greece, playing cards with special, special friends and relatives. His greatest joy, the family coming in and out of the house. He always said, "I don't like a quiet house". Respecting and loving his country of America with the opportunity to succeed and prosper, he stuck to Cadillac's as a firm, life-long rule. Following in the footsteps of his beloved father-in-law James Samuel, Isidore was a pillar of support in all efforts involving the family's Church of the Assumption Por Jefferson. Since its inception in 1959, with Mr. Samuel's designation as Godfather, first founder, and First President, Isidore, with wife Catherine, by 1997, then went on to become Godparents in their own right, to the brand new Byzantine Church built on the same grounds.
Forever a family man, he was a solid provider and "lifter" in every sense of the word Going home to God, the home he leaves here on earth, surely will never be the same without him.
Until we meet again, go rest easy in the open arms of your brothers, who await you, with ouzo in hand!
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to The Greek Orthodox Church of the Assumption.
