Ivadean Doris Nebelsick, age 88, of Canistota, died on Thursday, January 23, 2025 at Good Samaritan Center in Canistota. Funeral service will be held at 10 am, Friday, January 31 at The United Church of Canistota. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00pm on Thursday, January 30 at the Will Funeral Chapel in Mitchell, with a prayer service and sharing at 6:00 pm.
Memorials can be sent to the United Church of Canistota Building Fund.
Ivadean was the daughter of Louis Daniel and Habie G. (Heronimus) Nebelsick, born on August 19, 1936 on the family farm near Alexandria, SD, along with her twin sister Ivadell. She graduated from Edgerton Consolidated School, Farmer, SD. A victim of Cerebral Palsy at birth, Ivadean moved to Minneapolis to attend the Sister Kenny Institute in 1956. She worked at the Adjustment Training Center in Mitchell for twenty-six years, living in private homes and then care facilities in Mitchell. She became an Elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Mitchell. After one year in Madison, she worked for nine years at Sioux Vocational School in Sioux Falls. She became a member of Hilltop Methodist Church. Ivadean retired in 2002 to the Good Samaritan Center in Canistota. She was a member the United Church of Canistota.
Ivadean often stated her favorite memory was a trip to Washington, DC, where she visited the White House and had her picture taken in the capital with then Sen. Larry Pressler. She was grateful to family for extending care and family time.
She is survived by brother-in-law Dale Tutje, sister-in-law Rowena Nebelsick, nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends. Her sister Virginia Tutje from Illinois, joined her in heaven this past Sunday, January 26.
She was preceded in death by her parents, infant siblings Myrna, Virgil, and Ervin; sisters Adelin Montgomery and Ivadell (& Willis) Hafemayer, and brothers Leonard (& Lillian), Harold (& Melissa), George (& Eunice), Duane (& Marjorie), and Earl Nebelsick.
