James Thomas Crawford, 47, of Alvin, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Sunday afternoon, November 2, 2025, at MUSC Health Florence Medical Center. Thomas was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend whose kindness, warmth, and love for life touched everyone who knew him.
Born on June 23, 1978, in Charleston, South Carolina, Thomas was the beloved son of Tommy A. Crawford Jr. and Charlene Morton Crawford. He was a proud member of the first graduating class of Timberland High School and went on to earn his Associate Degree in Industrial Maintenance from Williamsburg Technical College.
Thomas began working at an early age for Eddie Brown at the St. Stephen IGA. After graduation, he spent several years as a maintenance mechanic with Albany International before joining Santee Cooper, where he worked faithfully for the remainder of his career. Deeply rooted in his community and guided by his faith, Thomas was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Bethera.
A fourth-generation farmer, Thomas found joy in tending to his land and caring for his animals-especially his donkey, along with his chickens, cow, and goats. He loved spending time outdoors, whether hunting, fishing, or taking beach trips with his family. Among his greatest joys were afternoons spent riding the property with his daughter, Annie, and moments shared with his son, Landon, whether skeet shooting or listening to him play the guitar. Thomas also treasured family adventures to Durhamtown Off Road Resort, where they created lasting memories riding ATVs together. He also enjoyed boating, classic television, classic rock music, reading his bible, grilling, and cooking-particularly his cherished Thanksgiving tradition of barbecuing a hog. Of all the holidays, Christmas was his favorite, and he took great joy in making it magical for his family.
The Crawford family extends their deepest gratitude to the entire MUSC Charleston staff, especially the STB ICU team, for their extraordinary care and compassion, as well as to the team at East Cooper Medical Center Rehabilitation and the first responders who assisted on the day of the accident. Your kindness and support will never be forgotten.
Thomas is survived by his loving wife, Lusie Hawkins Crawford; his parents of Salters; his cherished children, Landon Thomas Crawford and Annie James Crawford both of Alvin; his sister, Tiffany C. LaSalle and her husband, Scotty, of Macedonia; his brother, Timmy S. Crawford of Salters; and his adored niece and nephew, Bella and David LaSalle. He also leaves behind a large extended family and countless friends who will miss him dearly.
A memorial service celebrating Thomas's life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 8, 2025, in the Chapel of Dial-Murray Funeral Home, Moncks Corner. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The family suggests memorials be made in his honor to Bethel Baptist Church, 3060 Witherbee Road, Cordesville, SC 29434.
James Thomas Crawford will be remembered for his generosity, his love of the outdoors, his devotion to family, and his unwavering kindness. Over the past few months, he faced unimaginable challenges with courage, faith, and strength that inspired everyone around him. His legacy of resilience and love will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
