Mr. James "JD" Smith was born February 12, 1948 in Blytheville, Arkansas, the son of David and Janie Smith.
JD attended Washington High School in Blytheville, Arkansas. After high school he relocated to Flint, Michigan. He was a truck driver for Miller's Dairy for several years. He attended Bethlehem Temple Apostolic Faith Church. JD was a Blues singer and entertainer. He was a song writer and enjoyed traveling and performing with his band. Most of all JD loved spending time with his granddaughters.
JD leaves to cherish his memory: 2 daughters, Tina R. Connie (James Smith) of Grand Blanc, MI and Janice Connie (Timothy Williams) of Cincinnati, OH; 4 grandchildren, Courtney, Asia, Caleb and Kayla Connie; 3 brothers, Willie (Ernine) Smith of Flint, MI, Harry Joe of Dallas, TX and Maurice Blakes of Flint, MI; 2 sisters, Janie Hughes and Lula Jones both of Flint, MI; nephews, Isaac, James, Yule, Gasner, Donell, Willie Jr., Jonquel, John, Jemini and Michael; nieces, Tiffany, Sabrina, Erma, Niecy, Tawen and Felicia; 2 aunts, Ruby Dawson and Oney Mae Mack; daughter-in-law, Charmaine Connie of MD; a host of friends including Sheldon Banks, The Smith Band, Mr. Carter McWright, Anna Coday, goddaughter Dorothy King, and Bobbie Rogers.
JD was preceded in death by: wife, Bernestine Connie; son, Tyrone Connie; parents, David and Janie Smith; grandfather, David Smith; grandmother, Ruby Woodman; sisters, Mary Smith, Lorrine Green and Sarah Vaughn; brothers, David Smith Jr. and Andrew Joe.
The family would like to express special thanks to Steve Gordon (PACE), DaVita Dialysis (Mershell), Genesys nurses and McLaren-Flint Hospital.
