Joseph Milton Granier, son of the late Adrien and Virginia Granier, was born October 12, 1930, in Darrow, Louisiana, and departed this life December 2, 2023, at his home near Hartville, Missouri. He was 93 years, 1 month, and 21 days of age.
Milton grew up and attended school in Donaldsonville, Louisiana. Following school, he joined the United States Navy in 1949, and served his country until 1955. Milton met the love his life, Connie Courtney, and they were united in marriage April 29, 1955. One son was born to this union, Brett Granier, who passed away at ten months of age. In 1970, Milton and Connie moved to Arkansas where they farmed for seven years. Then they moved back to Louisiana where Milton's total consumption was gardening. Everyone always remarked about his thriving gardens. In 1999, they moved to Missouri and made their home near Hartville, where he continued to garden as long as his health permitted. Milton was in his garden from daylight until dark many days. He poured his heart and soul into his garden and took pride in having the best garden possible.
Milton's kids and grandkids were his entire life. He loved spending quality time with those who affectionately knew him as "Pawpaw". He also loved the Lord and loved his church. He was a member of Porter Chapel Church in Competition, Missouri. He also enjoyed playing his harmonica in church services. Milton enjoyed riding motorcycles, and he and Connie took many cross-country motorcycle trips together. He was very witty and was an excellent storyteller. He loved telling stories to his kids and grandkids.
Milton was preceded in death by his parents, Adrien and Virginia Granier, his son, Brett Granier, two sisters, Ann Braud and Hazel Poirer, and five brothers, Earl, Albert, Henry, Roy, and Adrien Granier.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Connie Granier, three special children, Chuck Mercer, Jason Mercer, and Donna Martin, two sisters, Doris Castleberry and Joyce Haydel, five grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and many nephews, nieces, and extended family and friends who will miss him.
