Castle Hill - J. Rodney Lamoreau, 83, passed away Monday, September 4, 2023, while at the Maine Veterans Home in Caribou. He was born June 5, 1940, in Presque Isle, the son of Paul and Ruth (Hasey) Lamoreau.
Rodney grew up in Presque Isle and Bangor, graduating from Presque Isle High School in 1958. He then enlisted into the United States Navy, where he proudly served for four years before being honorably discharged. Upon his discharge, Rodney attended and graduated from Ricker College in Houlton, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Geology in 1967.
On December 29, 1967, Rodney married Carolyn Foster, and together they would share over fifty-five years of marriage and raise their two children, Kristen P. Lamoreau and Jay R. Lamoreau. In 1972, Rodney and Carolyn built their home and along with their children, made many wonderful memories there. In 1969, he went to work for New England Telephone & Telegraph, and retired in 1998 after almost thirty dedicated years of service.
Not one to sit still, Rodney enjoyed rides through the woods, in his pickup with Paul Smith, and hiking with Lloyd Archer. He also loved going on canoe trips to the Allagash with his son Jay as well as John Larson. Rodney was also a great debater and enjoyed his times bantering with Ron Beaulieu and Bob Cormier.
He also enjoyed his 1951 ½ Ford Tractor and never missed an opportunity to have it in the Mapleton Daze Parades. It was at events like this that Rodney could easily be seen wearing his bright colored clothing for which he became known. Even though Rodney never professionally used his geology degree, he enjoyed discovering and collecting unique rocks, as well as panning for gold. He also took joy in attending events and spending time with his friends at SAGE.
Rodney was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Whether it was doing odd jobs at the Presque Isle Congregational Church or volunteering with Bruce Archer to fix computers for the senior citizens, he enjoyed giving of his time for projects.

Lamoreau of Castle Hill, a daughter, Dr. Kristen Lamoreau and her husband David Murphy of Weston, MA, a son, Jay Lamoreau and his wife Kelly of Castle Hill, four grandchildren, Aidan and Cole Murphy, Jack and Tucker Lamoreau, a sister, Annette Wolfe, as well as several nieces and nephews.
