Georgene Wight Lamoreau

Georgene Wight Lamoreau (Jo), wife of Ray Edward Lamoreau, died November 28, 2023. She was born in Presque Isle, Maine, June 1, 1931, the daughter of Effie Louise and Ronald S. Wight of Presque Isle, Maine.
Jo graduated from Presque Isle High School, Bradford Junior College, Haverhill, Massachusetts, and in 1952 from Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Science degree. She married Ray E. Lamoreau of Easton, Maine in the summer of 1952 and they reported to El Paso, Texas for his commitment to the United State Army. She returned to Presque Isle while Ray was deployed to Korea. They settled in Presque Isle, Maine and began farming potatoes in 1954. Their farm was on the outskirts of Presque Isle, on what is now known as the McBurnie Road. They raised three daughters there. Through these years she was an involved member of the community. Her civic commitments included Presque Isle School Board President, Eastern Star, Maine State President of American Association of University Women, League of Women Voters, and Maine Community Foundation. Jo was a trained pianist. She inspired a love of reading, music, and learning. She was passionate about golf, tennis, cross country skiing, and bowling. Jo and Ray moved to 48 Third Street in 1981 and later enjoyed winters in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
She is survived by her husband Ray E. Lamoreau and their three daughters, Llori Lamoreau Keirstead (m. Scott A. Keirstead) and their son Aaron S. Keirstead; Sheryl Lamoreau Felner (m. James G. Felner) and their daughters Molly L., Caroline L., and Emily W. (deceased); and Gayle Lamoreau Irvine (m. Hollis E. Irvine Jr.) and their children Hollis III, Amanda Irvine Reiss (m. Jacob) and their child Eliza G., Gordon L. (M. Darcey Falen) and their children Olive E. and Gordon P.
Jo is survived by her sister Dawna Wight Fowler, of Fort Fairfield, Maine. She was predeceased by her brother R. William (Bill) Wight. Throughout her life she enjoyed being surrounded by her extended family including the Fowlers, Wights, Rathbuns, Lamoreaus and Reeds.
Friends and relatives are invited to call 11AM Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at St. John's Episcopal Church, 52 Second Street Presque Isle, Maine. A funeral service will take place at 12PM with The Rev. Kevin Kinsey and The Rev. Steve Summerson officiating. The family invites you to a reception following the service, 1PM to 3PM at The Northeastland Hotel 436 Main Street Presque Isle, Maine.
