Ronald H. Blaessig
8/18/1937-11/7/2025
Ronald H. Blaessig, native son to
Rochester, New York, passed away peacefully on November 7th, surrounded by his family. Ron was a long standing member of the Rochester community, more specifically West Irondequoit.
Ron was the longtime owner and operator of Blaessig Glass. Originally studying German in school to recruit German glassblowers, his focus shifted to being a creator himself, following his fathers passing. Ron was an accomplished glass blower, forging pieces that were included in two NASA Space Labs. Not only was Ron a skilled glassblower, but a skilled craftsman overall. In retirement, Ron found passion in creating hand made knives. Putting in the same effort and attention to detail he had with his glassblowing.
Ron's legacy lives on through the Rochester community, not only for his famed athletic career, but for the many lives he impacted throughout his life. A member of the Monroe County Hall of Fame, Ron's athletic career began in West Irondequoit, where he was a four sport star in Baseball, Basketball, Football and Soccer. He attended Syracuse University, where he was awarded Athletic Scholarship, where he was a member of the Syracuse University Basketball team. Ron would then transfer to Hobart College to finish his collegiate career, where he is also a member of the Hobart Athletic Hall of Fame. Following his time in college, Ron was a significant figure in youth softball, where he coached youth softball teams for many years. He also amassed a senior softball league career which landed him in the Slow Pitch Softball Hall of Fame.
An avid outdoorsman, Ron's happy place was in nature. Ron's passion for hunting and fishing were filled with weekends away on family property, where Ron could be found fishing in Sodus Bay, trout fishing the creeks in Naples and hunting white tail deer. Countless hunting stories always filled the family dinner table during holidays, and photo albums broke out over some dessert. A passion that was passed down, his love for the outdoors will always live on.
Ron is survived by the love of his life Anna, whom he transferred to Hobart to be closer to. Married for 64 years, they raised three children Ronald S. Blaessig (predeceased) , Lisa Slade and Laura Blaessig. Throughout their 64 years of marriage, Ron was fortunate enough to see his family grow. Ron is survived by his grandchildren, Jamie Revell (Tony), Ronald J. Blaessig (Regina), Aryn Slade (Chase), and Daniel Blaessig. Ron was also able to see the birth of his two great-grandchildren, Rhett and Audrey.
Ron also leaves behind a dedicated care team. Made up of dedicated professionals, who created a foundational relationship with Ron during his final year. Ron found joy in interacting with each one of his caregivers, each of which had a special relationship with him. Ron was thankful to Amanda, Boat, Breana, Marina, Mariyam, Mourine, Ryan and Suraya, all who provided compassionate care, who helped make his remaining time full of joy.
A prominent figure in his family's lives, Ron will truly be missed. Whether you knew him personally or knew of him, one common truth is he always left you smiling. Ron was a devoted husband, loving father, a proud grandfather/great-grandfather and a genuine friend. He enriched the lives of those he encountered, and left a lasting legacy for family and friends alike. With his easy temperament, and gentle demeanor, all who had the pleasure of knowing him knew they were in the presence of someone special. Ron was always known for his big heart, and the care he showed for other people, he was always easy to talk to no matter the topic, knowing Ron was truly a blessing in itself. Although he has passed, the memories of Ron are a true gift to the world. From reminiscing over old stories being told with family and friends, to dusting off old photo albums, Ron lived a fulfilled life. The memories that were created during his lifetime, ensures he lives on through future generations of his family. If you knew Ron you loved him, and if he knew you, he loved you. His family finds comfort in knowing he is at peace, and that heaven is now a better place.
