Jenness Deon Judkins Miller, “Deon Miller”, 88, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2023. Deon was born on September 27, 1934, in Ogden, Utah to Joseph Burton Judkins and Jenness Watts
Judkins (RN). Deon grew up with her siblings Eugene (Bonnie) Judkins and Roselie (Cal) Calhau. She graduated from Ogden High School in 1952 and earned her LPN certification. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints during her youth and played the violin at many church and social functions. While still quite young, Deon and her family had many struggles with health and economic wellbeing due to the continued illness of her parents and the Great Depression. She often shared stories of a favorite Christmas where a special Christmas gift from her parents had been an orange.
Deon married her life-long sweetheart Richard Glenn Miller on June 10, 1952. Shortly thereafter he was drafted to fight in the Korean War where she continued to support him during his training and preparation for deployment. They then briefly had the opportunity to enjoy the birth of their first-born child at Camp Roberts (Monterey, CA). Deon and Richard lived in the Uintah Highlands area most of their lives with a secondary home in St. George, UT. During the past several years Deon and Richard lived at Legacy House Assisted Living where they found new friends and many opportunities to be of service.
Deon served in numerous church positions over the years including Relief Society and Primary presidencies. She and Richard also served jointly as Temple Workers and Ward Missionaries for several years. Deon was always ready and willing to help a neighbor, friend, or family member who was ill or needed a home cooked meal. Deon provided special loving care within her own home for her grandmother (Rose Watts) and her parents (Joseph and Jenness Judkins) as they suffered from the many ailments of old age. She truly had an empathetic heart for those she loved and who needed special care.
Deon is survived by her 3 children, David (Barbara) Miller, Mark (Candy) Miller, Tami (Richard) Stephens, 11 grandchildren, and 33 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to give special thanks to all her caregivers, including the staff of Legacy House Assisted Living, of Ogden for the kind and thoughtful care they gave to Deon for many years.
