J P Skinner Jr. Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 22, 2018.

JP Skinner Jr, age 80, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2018. Born on April 27, 1934, to the late Clara and JP Skinner of Bartlett, Texas, JP will be remembered as a beloved father and friend. He is survived by his three children, Robert, Susan, Jason, his daughter in-law Sue, his grand-daughter Clara, his extended family the Su's in Taiwan, his sisters Lorraine ( Jane ) Friedrich, Johnnye Gresham, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
As a longtime resident of Forest North in Austin, TX, he could often be found walking his dog Snoopy around the neighborhood or outside watering his lawn. Always one to stop and say hello or to offer a helping hand, JP was known to his friends and neighbors as a kind and gentle man.
He attended the University of Texas at Austin in 1956 and graduated in three years with a BA in Business, taking pride in having worked his way through school. In 1962, JP enlisted in the Air Force and advanced to rank of Captain, serving both state-side and in South East Asia during the Vietnam War. It was within this time that he met his future wife, Judith Covey in Roswell, NM. After he left the service, Judy and JP started a company to feature Judy's artistic talents. Together they created and sold soft toys and children's sleeping bags. With manufacturing based out of Bartlett, TX, their products were in such demand that they were featured on the cover of the 1971 Neiman Marcus Christmas catalog.
With a small and growing family, JP decided to enter the automobile business. This is where he would ultimately spend the greater part of his career in Austin, TX. While living in Bay City, JP coached his eldest son Jason's Little League Baseball team, the Broncos, to win the area championship. In the Spring of 1980, JP's wife took ill and he found himself a single parent. After Judy's death, JP dedicated his life to be a good parent. He was a loving father and enjoyed taking road trips to New Mexico, around Texas, and later trips abroad to visit his eldest son in Taiwan.
The lasting memory for his children is his kindness and his love for animals, becoming a vegetarian late in life.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Friday June 29,2018 at Goodnight Funeral Home. Funeral in Bartlett, Texas and services to follow Friday June 29, 2018 at 11 am.
