Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jay Funeral Chapel on Nov. 23, 2025.
Jabo Jernigan (hardly ever known as Ernest B. Jernigan), passed to
his Heavenly Home and into the arms of Jesus, surrounded by his children,
Wednesday morning, November 19, 2025, following a six-week battle with
cancer.
Jabo was born April 10, 1943 in
Jay, Florida. He was a 1962 graduate of Jay High
School and retired from the Santa Rosa County School District Maintenance
Department in 2008 and into full "PamPaw"duty. He will be remembered as a
man who did for others, a man of faith in Jesus Christ, his Savior, a man who
loved his children and family and friends. He was an avid fisherman and hunter;
with a special "talent" for turkey hunting. He also enjoyed working with Ricky,
Vicki, Virginia, Brandt, and Tanner on the Hendricks's Farm when they needed
his help.
Jabo was preceded in death by his parents, Joe. B and Christine Bray Jernigan.
In addition, his siblings and their spouses; Mart and Earlene Jernigan; Roy and
Hazel Jernigan; Allen and Barbara Jernigan; Vonnie and Donald Stanton; Bud
and Grace Johnson; Robert Carlton and Baby Jernigan, D.C. and Gladys Barnes,
the grandparents of his children.
Jabo is survived by his children; Stephanie and Randy Watson of Jay,Florida;
Kristi and Brian Turner of Enterprise, Al; Joey and Tasha Jernigan of Radcliff,
Ky, his Granddaughter, Bryce Whitley Turner "His Mutton"; his sister, Barbara
Johnson and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Glenda Beard-
mother of his children, an "extra" granddaughter-Alana, very special lady,
Sandra Lowry Holt and her two daughters Kim (Darrell) Owens and DeeDee
(Jason) Warren and their families, who held special places in his heart.
Jabo had a unique sense of humor and the stories galore that could keep you
laughing or smiling for years. Just ask any of his friends or family members.
