Melvin Houston Carnley, age 76 of Jay, FL, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Sunday, September 7, 2025.
He was born on November 18, 1948, in Jay, FL. Melvin served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. He returned home and was stationed in Colorado, where he and his wife started their life together. Melvin dedicated his professional life to the oil field industry as a job superintendent, retiring from Charco after 35 years. During this time, he formed many lifelong friendships. Melvin enjoyed spending time fishing, hunting, tending to his garden, traveling with his grandchildren, and driving backroads in his favorite, old, white truck.
Melvin was preceded in death by his mother, Erma Simmons Carnley; father, Houston Carnley; sister, Betty Carnley Hanks; and an infant sister. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Audrey Baggett Carnley, and their daughters: Kimberly (Woody) Seevers, and Rebecka (Michael) Smith. He was a proud grandfather to: Alaina (Tanner) Paul, Savannah (Cody) Paramore, Judd (Kaitlyn) Smith, Preston (Mattie) Smith, Isabella (Eli Stephens) Seevers, Kenley Smith, Alicia (Matt) Christian, and Kristina (Billy) Nottke. A great-grandfather to: Knox Paul, soon-to-be Tucker Paul, Hudson Jace Paramore, Adelynn Riley, Chloe Smith, and Sylvie Nottke. Melvin is also survived by two special nieces: Deborah (Arthur) Morris and Donna (Joey) Tolbert; a special grandson, Joey Tolbert; three brothers: Clarence (Minnie) Carnley, Leon (Barbara) Carnley, Curtis (Dianne) Carnley; and many loved extended family members.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at 10:00am. Funeral services will follow at 11:00am at Jay Funeral Chapel. Graveside service will be held at Cora Baptist Church Cemetery in Jay, FL.
Active pallbearers include: Marcus Carnley, Travis Carnley, Jacob Cox, Jason Cox, Michael Carnley, John Watson, Arden Hale, Greg McCall, and Woodsy Guerrie. Honorary pallbearers include: Jimmy Watson, Danny Brooks, Marshall Hudson, and Larry Hudson.
The family would like to thank the staff of Jay Hospital for their loving care, and the many specialists who provided care during Melvin's illness.
