William Fred "Bobby" McHenry, Jr.,91, of Jay passed away
Thursday, February 12 th at Jay Hospital after a brief Illness. He
was born October 4, 1934, in Coy, Alabama as the oldest of 11
children to William Fred and Sarah Morgan McHenry. He was
preceded in death by his parents; brothers James Matthew,
Marshall Franklin, Milton Edward, infant, Wilson; sisters Tracey
Helen, Dinah Sue and infant Jane.
Bobby was a 1955 graduate of Arcola High School in Arcola,
Mississippi. After high school, he served in the US Army as
Specialist E4 stationed in West Berlin, specializing in
communications. After his army service, he returned to
Mississippi and started a career in sales, selling farm implements
and trucks at Delta Implement Company in Vicksburg. While
visiting relatives in Alabama, he met his future wife Mary Alice
who was attending Troy University. They were married in Pace,
Florida in 1964 and settled in Jay. He started his employment at
American Cyanamid in 1965, where he worked (numerous years
with perfect attendance) until retirement in 1995.
He enjoyed anything outdoors, especially tending to and sharing
his garden. He was very patriotic and insisted that a flag be
displayed at home. He also loved watching the Alabama Crimson
Tide and visiting with his many friends at the post office, the dollar
store and the soda shop. The center of his life was his family, and
he always made that his priority. He got endless enjoyment from
his two precious grandchildren, WT and Morgan. He loved
watching them play sports, taking them to the Farmer's Market for
chicken and to the creek to fish. His devotion and self-sacrifice
on behalf of his family is a legacy that will long endure.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Alice. Sons, William
Beauregard "Beau" (Carolyn) of Pace and Steven Fred of
Pensacola; Grandchildren, William Thomas and Morgan Leigh;
Sisters, Sabra Molly Kent, Carolyn Frances Zaballa, Betty Faye
(Mack) Novak; sisters-in-law, Karin McHenry, Jackie McHenry and
Barbara Gmytruk; brother-in-law, John Seppi; and numerous,
special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A visitation will be held from 6-8 pm on Tuesday, February 17 th at
the Jay Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday,
February 18 th at the Jay Funeral Chapel with Reverend Chip Fox
and Bishop Ryan Bristow officiating. Burial will follow at Mt.
Carmel Methodist Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be his nephews; Barney Whitley, Cory McHenry,
Bill Wasden, Herb Cannon, Johnny Wasden, and Logan Kent.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. C. David
Smith and his staff. Also, special thanks to the nurses, therapists,
patient care techs and entire staff of Jay Hospital for their tireless,
loving care.
