Jack (Albert) Fitting, a man whose laughter echoed louder than his footsteps, passed away on May 30, 2025, at the ripe age of 89. He was born on October 2, 1935, in Saginaw, Michigan, where he probably perfected his quick wit and jovial personality, ensuring that every conversation was filled with levity, always left a lasting impression
A spirited Hemlock High School graduate of the class of 1953, Jack went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army. After leaving the service, Jack spent decades driving truck, eventually retiring with the Saginaw County Road Commission. Jack's adventures on the road were only rivaled by his fun-filled travels, particularly his winter retreats to the sunny shores of Orange Beach, Alabama.
Beyond his professional life, Jack was an avid gardener, loving nothing more than cultivating his yard to perfection. One could often find him missing in action during softball games, not as a player but as a devoted fan—armed with uproarious commentary and cheers for his teams. Jack’s love for camping took him across the state of Michigan, to various baseball tournaments, and to Gulf Shores, Alabama with his wife and friends. He enjoyed getting in his car and taking daily road trips to see what was going on in the world. His joy was not just found in nature or travel, but in the family he built around him; he was a cherished husband to his beloved wife, Carole (Hoffman) whom he married on December 2, 1961, a beloved father to his children, Steve (Margaret) Fitting, James Fitting, and Lori Fitting, and a committed grandfather and great-grandfather who adored his grandchildren, Kyle (Molly)Fitting, Kalie Rose Fitting, Gracie Rose Fitting; and great-grandkids, Briggs Fitting and Lillian Rose Fitting. They were his pride and joy—and likely the reason he had a permanent grin on his face! He also leaves behind an extended family member, Maria Fitting.
Jack was also a distinguished 50-year member of the St. Charles Masonic Lodge #313, and had many friend groups he kept laughing and smiling. Simply put, Jack loved the company of good friends and community.
Jack's departure to be with the Lord leaves a gaping hole filled with love and laughter, not just for his family and friends but for anyone fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him. He joins his parents, Albert and Rose (Anschutz) Fitting, and in-laws Oscar and Ethel (Dunn) Hoffman, numerous friends and extended family who might just have the funniest heavenly reunion.
The family would like to thank Rhoda Nehmer, Joe Mikek, Gentile Hospice particularly Sarah, Jessica and Kendra for the kind and endearing care they gave Jack.
A celebration of Jack’s life will take place at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 5, 2025 at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 201 N. Miller Rd. with Mr. Scott Wylie to officiate.
