Jack Melvin Barnhart, age 90, of Carleton, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital.
Born on October 10, 1933, in Oak Hill, Ohio, he was the son of the late Clarence and Mary Kate (Martin) Barnhart. On October 20, 1956, he married Corinne Ross in Jackson, Ohio.
After high school, Jack joined the Army. He served proudly until his honorable discharge in 1961. Following his time in the military, he worked at A.P. Green's Brickyard until moving to Michigan in 1973, when he became the Plant Manager of BMI Manufacturing. He retired in 1997. After his retirement, Jack decided to pursue a part-time job and became the Caretaker of Ash Carleton Park, where he was employed until his death.
Jack loved to hunt, attending deer camp every year. In his younger years, his hobbies also included fishing, bowling, and golf. He enjoyed watching the Tigers, Lions, and Westerns. Throughout his life, he was actively involved in community service. He was a member of the Rotary Club, Lions Club, and American Legion. Most recently Jack was serving on the board of Ash Carleton Park Commission. Above all, Jack was a believer in Christ, devoting his time to the churches he attended. He was currently a member of Carleton United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Donald Barnhart, William (Violet)Barnhart, Charles (Rowena)Barnhart, Elmer (Jenny) Barnhart, Arnold Barnhart, Beulah (Eugene) Welch, Barbara Fisher and brother-in-law, Alva Viers.
Jack is survived by his wife of 67 years, Corinne Barnhart; children, Kim Barnhart, Paula (Adam) McCallum, and Andrew (Catie) Barnhart; grandchildren, Dillan, Nicky and Bradley Barnhart, Tonya McCallum, Kayla (Zaine Townsend) McCallum, Ashley and Heather Zahorchak; great-grandchildren, Karter, Zander, and Zara; siblings, Baeotta Barnhart, Ronald Barnhart, and Ruth Viers, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Jack was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle.
Per his request, there will not be a memorial or funeral service. Cremation has taken place through Bobcean Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to Ash Carleton Park.
