Jack Bess, a cherished resident of Marengo, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his home on September 1, 2025, at the age of 88, surrounded by the love of his family after a prolonged illness.
He was born on July 10 , 1937, in Covington, Virginia, Jack was the son of Cleaster (Gerald) and Mary Francis (Glass) Bess. His dedication to service was evident in his eleven years with the United States Army, a testament to his commitment to his country. A proud and lifelong member of the American Legion in Norwalk, Ohio, Jack embodied the values of loyalty and camaraderie throughout his life. After his military service, he found fulfillment in a career at the Norwalk Furniture Company of Norwalk, where he retired after many years of hard work.
Though his journey through life included moments of profound loss, including the passing of his beloved son Darren J. Bess, stepson Tracy M. Brammer, and siblings Michael Bess, Johnnie Bess, Deloris Pine, and Mary Plough, Jack's spirit remained resilient.
He is lovingly remembered by his life partner, Janice E. Brammer, and his surviving children: daughter Denise (James) Boyce of Idaho and son Mark Bess of Norwalk, Ohio. Jack's legacy is further carried on by his daughter-in-law Connie Bess, brother Ralph (Irene) Bess, and sisters Susan Robrback, Goldy Dunaway, and Jeannie Corner. Additionally, he is survived by Janice's children Carl, Tim, Matt, Greg, Tish, Mandy, and Kristina Brammer, alongside a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will hold his memory dear.
As we honor Jack's life, we celebrate a man who dedicated his existence to those he loved, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. His warmth, kindness, and unwavering spirit will be forever cherished, and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
