James Lowell Douce, age 80, of Marion, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, after a valiant battle with colon cancer.
On May 9, 1945, James was born in Galion, Ohio, to the late Delbert and Corrinne (Corwin) Douce. On November 1,1980, he married the love of his life, Patricia A. (Massey) Douce.
Jim worked at Quaker Oats until 1990. After his years at Quaker Oats, he owned and operated his own contracting business in the Marion area.
Jim loved and was proud of helping his kids and grandkids doing projects around their homes. He always put his family before himself. He enjoyed Gospel and Country music and loved to dance with his wife, Pat. He also enjoyed working in his yard, watching wrestling, football, and NASCAR. He had a sense of humor with many sayings to make everyone laugh. He was proud of working on the community playground at Glenwood Park (Rotary Park). He was also a friend of Bill W. for 38 years.
James is survived by his wife, Patricia A. Douce of Marion, Ohio, along with his children: Rhonda (Ron) Garver, Lacie (Peter) Gubernath, and James L. Douce II (Ashley). He is also survived by his grandchildren: Kaylene Garver (Ben), Brett and Aiden Gubernath; great-grandchildren: Neriah and Titus; and siblings: Bonita (Jack) Whiteamire, Doris Hindman, Merle (Shelly) Douce, Marvin Dale Douce, and Mary Hardy, as well as many nieces and nephews and a special friend, Paul Fowler.
He was preceded in death by his parents Delbert and Corrinne (Corwin) Douce and his sister Donita Blue.
Services will be held at Edwards Funeral Home, 318 Mt Vernon Ave, Marion, Ohio 43302. The family will greet friends during visitation on Monday, February 16, from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 17, at 11:00 AM.
His family would like to thank all of the 2 East and ICU employees at Marion General Hospital for their wonderful care, as well as his doctors: Dr. John McDonough, Dr. Lindsey Clark, Dr. Miryam Burelli and Dr. Anitha Sethuran Nallari.
Memorial contributions may be made to Ohio Health Hospice.
