John Alexander Budzynski, affectionately known as Jack, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on January 17, 1939, in Queens, New York, Jack lived a life that was both full and rich in service to others. His devotion to family, community, and his country shaped the man he became-one who will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
After graduating from Alliance College with a BA in History, Jack proudly served his country as a communications expert in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Oxford. His commitment to service continued when he joined the New York City Fire Department, where he spent his career as a dedicated firefighter. Even after retiring, Jack's desire to stay active and engaged led him to new paths. He worked in security and management at Federated Department Stores and later became a substitute teacher and campus monitor at Alexander Hamilton High School, where his kindness and wisdom touched the lives of many.
Jack had an infectious personality and a deep, genuine love for the people around him. He was known for his great sense of humor, his ability to listen with an open heart, and his wise counsel that helped guide friends and family members. His presence lit up every room he entered, and he had an uncanny ability to make everyone feel valued and heard.
He embraced life's simple pleasures, Jack enjoyed nothing more than spending time at the beach with his family-whether walking along the boardwalk, soaking up the sun, or simply being in the company of those he cherished. He was also an avid reader, staying well-informed on current events, and a passionate fan of baseball, movies, and music. Jack looked forward to reconnecting with his old college friends and attending FDNY retiree events, where his camaraderie and love for his fellow firefighters shone brightly.
Jack's legacy lives on in his beloved family. He is survived by his wife, Eileen; his two devoted sons, John and Kevin, and their wives, Linda and Christine; and his three treasured granddaughters, Alyssa, Lauren, and Caitlin. He is also survived by his younger sister, Catherine, and predeceased by his sister, Irene.
Though he is no longer with us, we find peace in knowing that Jack's wisdom, kindness, and love will continue to guide us in the days ahead. His memory will live on in the countless stories and lessons he leaves behind, forever cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The family will receive friends and loved ones at Thomas F. Dalton Home in Floral Park. A viewing will be held on Sunday, October 12th, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes in Queens Village, NY, on Monday, October 13th, at 10:45 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Jack's memory to Calvary Hospital, a cause that was close to his heart. (There is a clickable link provided below)
