Jack Wayne Burks, 88, of Appomattox, VA, passed away Sunday, February 8, 2026, at his home. He was the loving husband of the late Elsie Moore Burks.
Born in Appomattox, on October 17, 1937, he was the son of the late Jack Lee Burks and Lucy Riley Burks. Jack Wayne was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. He was a machinist by trade, a skill he learned serving in the United States Navy. Jack worked for BWXT and Areva. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for C.H. White. He loved farming and running beef cattle. He was passionate about bluegrass and was an accomplished musician who had the talent to play instruments by ear. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially spending time hunting and fishing.
He is survived by one son, Kenneth Wayne Burks and wife, Bonnie; he was “Big Pop” to his three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren whom he loved, Callan Dudley and husband, Timmy, Kristen Trent and husband, Dwayne, and Kasey Almond and husband, Jake; five great-grandchildren, Rawlings Dudley, Georgia Dudley, Maggie Trent, Beau Almond, and Burks Almond; and a special friend, Paige Nolen.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m., on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Robinson Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Rick Sewell and Spiritual Counselor Brandon Conner with Masonic Rites accorded by Monroe Masonic Lodge #301 A.F. and A.M. Following the service a private burial will be held at Liberty Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 6:30 pm, on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at Robinson Funeral Home.
