Bobby W. Phelps, 93, of Lynchburg, VA, died peacefully on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at his residence. He was the husband of Betty Robinson Phelps for 70 years.
Born on April 22, 1932, in Oakville, Va., he was the son of the late Thomas Talmadge and Florine Moore Phelps. Bobby was a 1952 graduate of Appomattox County High School. After graduating he worked with his uncle farming for two years and then served four years in the U.S. Air Force. After returning from the service, Bobby worked for several years for Robinson Funeral Home. Bobby went on to have a successful career with Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Company for over 60 years. Bobby enjoyed playing tennis, golf, and gardening.
In addition to his wife, Betty he is survived by three children, Tony Phelps and wife, Tutka of Virginia Beach, Todd Phelps of Lynchburg, and Lisa Jennings and husband, Clinton of Forest; five grandchildren, Tate Phelps and wife, Hannah, Shane Phelps and wife, Candy, Meghan Bauscher and husband, Daniel, Taylor Phelps and wife, Sara, and Heidi Phelps; seven great-grandchildren, Aubrey Bauscher, Claire Bauscher, Jackson Phelps, Hunter Phelps, Amerisa Phelps, Arthas Phelps, and Lyric Phelps; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Harry Phelps, David A. Phelps, W. Talmadge Phelps, Beatrice Ernst, Cottelle Trujillo, Frances Reynolds, and Lucille Davidson.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm, Friday, February 13, 2026, at Robinson Funeral Home, Appomattox officiated by Rev. Ronald T. Davidson. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery, Appomattox with military rites accorded by American Legion Post #104 and VFW #9855 combined honor guard.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service.
