Jack Eckels Obituary

Jack Patrick Eckels
January 25, 1948 - November 7, 2025
Born in Dallas January 25, 1948 to parents Pat O. Eckels and Betty Alley Eckels and died on November 7, 2025 much too soon according to his family and friends.
Jack graduated from Texas A&M with an accounting degree in 1969. He received his JD in 1972 from University of Texas School of Law and a Masters in Tax Law in 1974 from New York University. He was Board Certified in Tax Law and Estate Planning and Probate Law.
He started his legal career with the Cox, Smith Law Firm in San Antonio. He relocated to Houston in 1977 where he joined the Chamberlain Hrdlicka Law Firm and married Diane Davis, his wife of 48 years. They had been an item since they met in the law library at UT. Together they had rewarding careers, traveled extensively, mentored children through their church St Paul's Methodist and in general enjoyed life. At Chamberlain Hrdlicka for more than 40 years, he enjoyed his work, his colleagues and his clients.
Jack was a brilliant tax attorney, an outstanding mentor, and a dear friend to his colleagues and clients. He is remembered fondly for his sharp sense of humor, storytelling, and unrivaled knowledge of tax law. His family will never forget his kindness, patience and genuine interest in other people.
He is survived by his wife, his brother Robert and his wife Robin, his brother-in-law John, his nephew Richard and his girlfriend Jacqueline Dennison and numerous other relatives.
Jack and Diane moved to the Hallmark almost two years ago and have many friends there. A Celebration of Life for Jack will be held there, 4718 Hallmark Dr., on December 7th, 2:45-5 pm.
In memory of Jack, please hug your loved ones tight and donate to the charity of your choice or the MD Anderson Cancer Center.

A Texas tax law legend. Nobody could discuss a tax topic like Jack. He loved to do so and his wit and good nature will long be remembered and likely never replicated. Rest in Peace Jack and God bless you and your family.

Jack Eckels had a wit that was unmatched, and was such a great attorney. He was friend to so many, and Diane, I will miss him, as will so many others. A favorite memory was when I would see Diane and Jack riding their bicycles on some Sundays....Jack Eckels made a difference in so many people's lives.

I truly enjoyed all of Jack Eckels' stories during his presentations at the Chamberlain Hrdlicka continuing professional education seminars. He was very witty and interesting.

Jack was such a nice person, and a very good friend. I´ll miss him at our celebration dinners where Jack was a brilliant conversationalist. We had lots of fun over the years. Margaret Hansen
