Gregory Dean "Greg" Eckels

Gregory Dean Eckels, age 66, passed away on December 27, 2025, in Durant, Oklahoma.

Gregory was born on February 3, 1959, in Ventura, California, to Robert Eckels and Dian (Francis) Jackson. He spent his life working hard and serving others, most notably as a heavy equipment operator, a role that reflected both his skill and strong sense of responsibility.

In 1989, Gregory married the love of his life, Dana Lynn Turner, at the Salina Posse Grounds. Together they built a life rooted in family, dedication, and community. Gregory was proud to be involved with the Salinas Rodeo Committee and enjoyed spending his free time riding quads and motorcycles and working with horses.

One of the greatest highlights of Gregory's life was helping others reach safety-assisting people onto helicopters and ensuring safe passage during critical moments. Safety was more than a responsibility to him; it was a value he lived by and instilled deeply in his family.

Gregory was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Eckels and Dian (Francis) Jackson; and two brothers, Michael Eckels and Steve Eckels.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Dana Eckels; his daughter, Mattie McGuire; his granddaughter, Riata McGuire; his niece, Chererice Eckels; and a host of other family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 2, 2025, at Condon Grove Cemetery in Milburn, Oklahoma, with Pastor Chris Fields officiating.
