Jack Wayne Edwards, 83 of Charlotte, NC passed away on February 24, 2025.

Born to Alton and Flora Edwards in Charlotte, NC. He enjoyed playing football in junior and senior high school. He also was a member of the Harding High School Band. He met his future wife, Mary, in junior high school where she was captivated by his green eyes. They would marry in 1961 and have three children together. Wayne, Scott, and Kimberly. This year would have marked their 64th wedding anniversary in June.

He worked for The Charlotte Observer for nearly 44 years in the pressroom. He took great pride in the newspaper. Spending a large portion of his career as a pressman he retired as the Parts and Service Department Manager. He loved reminiscing on his Observer days and the great people he worked with.

Jack was a proud member of East Gate Masonic Lodge #692, since 1985.

He enjoyed traveling to the beach, Florida, New England, Canada, cruising and many other places. For years he coached his son’s little league and CYAC Pop Warner teams. Saturday mornings were for his yard sales, one of his favorite pastimes, and Saturday afternoons were for watching college football, tinkering in his workshop, and riding his John Deere tractor. Sundays were for Nascar and Dale Earnhardt and later Dale Earnhardt Jr. No tree was safe with Jack and his favorite chainsaw around. One of his favorite things to do was to plan annual family reunions. Jack was always up for lending a helping hand. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, nieces and nephews and attending their various sporting events.

Jack was predeceased by his parents and six of his eight sisters, Catherine, Georgie, Helen, Lubert, Nell and Novella. He is survived by his wife Mary, their three children Wayne Edwards (wife Annette), Scott Edwards (wife Pam), Kimberly Bissonnette (husband Douglas). Their six grandchildren Brandi Valladares (husband Eddy), Terry Edwards (wife Allina), Amanda Harris (husband Michael), Daniel Edwards (wife Emily), Alyssa Bissonnette and Alex Bissonnette. Great-grandchildren Savannah, Emily, Adrienne and Victoria, and great-great-granddaughter Katherine. Siblings, brother AB Edwards, sisters Betty Daniels and Clara Cox. Along with many beloved nieces and nephews.

Jack was a dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be deeply missed by all.

The family would like to thank the Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, and Tucker Hospice House.

Services will be held at Hartsell Funeral Home, Harrisburg, NC, on February 28. Visitation will be from 12:00-2:00 with the service immediately following in the chapel. Donations may be made to Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, 600 College St., Oxford, NC, 27565. MHC-Oxford.org
